Kelly Lepo | Why didn’t we rotate this JWST image to get rid of all of the black space? Normally we would (for aesthetic reasons), but Cas A is a very well-known target and is traditionally shown north is up, east is to the left (a common convention in astronomy). To make it easier to compare to other images, we kept that orientation. For example, here is the JWST image next to the Chandra X-ray telescope image, showing the same structures at different wavelengths. 3/
