Mark McCaughrean | JWST image of the Trapezium Cluster & inner Orion Nebula: short-wavelength channel
This is a large mosaic of the Trapezium Cluster and inner Orion Nebula made using the short-wavelength channel of the NIRCam instrument on the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. The image was made by Mark McCaughrean & Sam Pearson of the European Space Agency, based on data from JWST Guaranteed Time Observation programme 1256 (PI: McCaughrean). You'll likely see many versions of this image on Flickr & elsewhere, but this is the original & I am the author of it :-) The five NIRCam filters combined to make this image are: F140M, F162M, F182M, F187N, & F212N. I'll write more of a guide to the image when I have time, but feel free to download and explore. It's very large and there's a lot in it. Two science papers based on these data and submitted to academic journals are currently available at: markmccaughrean.net/science It was released by the European Space Agency on 2 October 2023 at: www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Webb/Webb_s...
