Harvard ADS: Uncovering New Populations of High-z AGN: From HST to JWST, and future Roman Deep Fields

Paper abstract: Extensive multi-band imaging campaigns are revealing potential new populations of faint, highly reddened AGN in the first 1-2 Gyr of cosmic time and earlier, with the most recent JWST results suggesting that these sources may be more numerous than previously expected at these redshifts. This presentation describes an overview of the current state of the latest results from JWST, in the context of earlier HST studies, and prospects for further probing faint AGN with future Roman Deep Fields which could reach UDF depths over degree-scale areas, with HST-quality imaging up to 2 microns, dramatically expanding the observational discovery space for faint AGN into the epoch of reionization, and probing the formation and growth of the first supermassive black holes at these early epochs.
