Harvard ADS: COSMOS-WebX: Unveiling the Connection between AGN and their Host Galaxies in the last 12.5 Years

Paper abstract: Crucial questions on the triggering and impact of AGN remain unanswered. The majority of AGN, especially at increasing redshifts, are heavily obscured - thus to understand the growth of most AGN at z>2 is dependent on our ability to select obscured AGN at these epochs. JWST will analyze the host-galaxies of these sources, but first we must detect them. We propose an ambitious 1.6 Ms Chandra ACIS-I survey over 0.5 sq. deg to achieve uniform depth centered on the JWST/NIRCam/MIRI imaging survey (COSMOS-Web), NIRISS NIR spectroscopic survey (COSMOS-3D), and ALMA 1mm survey (CHAMPS). The conjunction of deeper X-ray data with the unparalleled area and wavelength coverage afforded by the COSMOS field will enable the largest and most complete census of obscured powerful AGN up to z=5.
