Paper abstract: With its peculiar appearance, I Zw 18 has long been considered a uniqueexample of a young galaxy in the nearby Universe. In this paper, we summarizethe observational history of this famous galaxy, discuss the controversiessurrounding its evolutionary state, and present new insights gained fromJWST/NIRCam observations. These recent findings shed light on one of the mostintriguing mysteries in extragalactic astronomy.
