The James Webb Space Telescope Feed
The most extensive source of information about James Webb Space Telescope. JWST Feed contains every single piece of data from the telescope, and is updating live every few minutes. Our goal is to make the full JWST data accessible for the public.

Kelly Lepo | New image of Saturn, as seen by # JWST . This image was taken through a single filter (at 3.23 microns), so we are seeing a greyscale image that has been tinted orange. The planet appears extremely dark in this infrared filter since methane gas absorbs almost all of the sunlight that hits the atmosphere. However, the icy rings stay relatively bright. We also see the moons Dione, Enceladus, and Tethys. Saturn's moon Enceladus is blasting a plume of water 6,000 miles high. Could life be lurking under its icy shell?
JWST molecular mapping and characterization of Enceladus' water plume feeding its torus Published: 5/30/2023 4:34:57 AM Updated: 5/30/2023 4:34:57 AM
Water emission is observed across the whole field of view, revealing an immense water plume emanating from Enceladus which is feeding an extended background torus around Saturn
Kelly Lepo | Researchers used # JWST ’s IFU to study the water around Saturn’s moon Enceledus. The IFU (Integral Field Unit) is a combination camera and spectrograph, which captures a spectrum of each pixel in an image. They detected many lines of water from the torus around Enceladus and the plume itself. In this diagram, white lines are the data from Webb, and the best-fit models for water emission are overlaid in different colors–purple for the plume, green for the moon, and red for the surrounding torus.
Space Telescope Science Inst. | # NASAWebb ’s first observations of the ocean world Enceladus—a moon of Saturn—are stunning researchers. A water vapor plume jetting from the moon’s surface measures over 20 times longer than the moon itself.
